Voter Turnout Looking Good in Kansas City
I dropped by the absentee voter office yesterday afternoon, and it was packed! A line snaked out the door, and people were shoulder-to-shoulder at the counter. One of the people in line had come from another location where they told him that the wait would be two hours.
Two women who came in were told they needed to go to Independence to vote. They didn't grumble or look discouraged - they got directions and headed out to Independence.
I am officially optimistic. There was excitement in the air.

The problem is we have to win it by enough that they cannot steal it. In 2000, over one half million votes was NOT enough of a margin.
Encourage everyone to take paper ballots when possible. It makes voting go faster. No waiting for machines. Bring your own #2 pencil and leave it for others to use.
Just wait until those two poor voters reach Independence and have the misfortune of meeting Charlene "We Don't Need No Stinkin' Voters" Davis -- The Queen of Voter Suppression.
Gone Mild, if you ever really want to take up a campaign that would make the world a better place, all you have to do is lead the charge to remove Charlene Davis from the Jackson County Board of Elections. Ms. Davis has a long and storied history of making it more difficult for citizens to exercise their right to suffrage. She needs to be removed from office.

How about fixing our broken system so that it is impossible for anyone to steal an election?
If we figured out a way to conduct fair elections and count the votes accurately, wouldn't we be better off?

I am surprised that a Libertaian would take your view point. Your view is like someone who fears being ripped off by in a business deal arguing that we should ban business until we can make sure they will always be happy with their purchases.

Nut case? At least I can make a cogent argument. Your statement doesn't make sense. Maybe I'm just too crazy to understand your erudite logic. I stated that we ought to put some effort toward improving our system, and you somehow read into that a desire to abandon elections entirely? And what is it about Libertarianism that makes you think we would embrace faulty electoral processes?

I think that anyone who reads this exchange will see that Pat is the nuttier one. I suspect that Pat may have somehow misinterpreted your comment to mean that we should not have elections until we figure out a way to have them fairly and count all the votes.
I know, you didn't say that, but I have worked with the mentally ill for several years, and sometimes they kind of "fill in" what isn't there.
Paper money and the Federal Reserve will be the downfall of civilization.
